The Facts Are
- Victimization has primatily been seen as a female problem for many years
- Estimated 1 and 6 boys will be physically, sexually, and/or emotionally abused by the time they reach age 18
- Most males are sexually abused by other males, but the number of males repoting abuse by women is increasing
Frequency of Male Assaults
- Male victims comprise 25% to 35% of the case loads of clinicians working in the Sexual abuse area
- estimated that between 46,000 and 92,000 male children are abused in the United States each year
Effects of Male Sexual Assault
- Violent and intense nightmares
- Fear that everyone is a potential attacker
- Shame, Anger, nad Guilt
- Feelings of helplessness
- Fear of intimacy
- Flashbacks
- Self abuse
- Depression
- Low self-esteem
